Detroit, Michigan may not be the first place people think of for a weekend escape (particularly in winter!), but we were pleasantly surprised with the city. Even in winter we found plenty to do and see and via bundling up and lots of indoor stops, we felt like we covered quite a bit of ground. Asheville, North Carolina has a little bit of something for everyone. It has a plethora of breweries and bars, ample delicious restaurants and eateries, a strong arts scene, and plenty of opportunities to get outside in nature. Our visit in mid-April was marked by temperatures in the mid-60s, which was the perfect not-too-cold, not-too-hot temperature to explore the city. March started off slow but picked up speed mid-month. I flew up to Toronto to visit my friend Sara, and then took the train over to Ottawa for the next few days to spend time with Mark who was visiting with friends from England. While in Ottawa, Mark and I celebrated our 3 year anniversary with a delicious steak dinner at Keg Steakhouse in York Market, and did fun Canadian things like attend a hockey game, go ice skating, and eat poutine.
