I absolutely love seeing a city decked out for Christmas, and London is one of my favorite places to experience the festive season. However, I also know how overwhelmingly busy popular cities can become as the holidays approach.
I was pleasantly surprised by a late-November trip to the city with my friend. We were able to fully enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, lights, and decorations while avoiding the worst of the crowds, so the visit still felt festive without being overwhelming.
I took this trip in 2025, traveling from Thursday, November 27 to Sunday, November 30. It was the perfect long weekend for enjoying London at the start of the Christmas season.

Visiting in late November meant there were fewer crowds overall. I later saw videos online of the same places I had visited, taken just a few weeks later in mid-December, and they looked far busier. We still encountered plenty of other visitors, but most places felt manageable rather than packed.
By late November, Christmas lights are already glowing across the city, so you can enjoy many of London’s famous festive displays. Evening walks feel especially magical, with plenty to see without needing to wait until December.

Popular venues and department stores are also already beautifully decorated and stocked with Christmas gifts, ornaments, and seasonal treats, making it a great time for festive browsing or shopping.

Christmas themed afternoon teas have begun by this point too, offering a cozy way to take a break from sightseeing and enjoy seasonal flavors in a festive setting.
Pubs, cafés, and restaurants around the city are already serving festive drinks, from mulled wine and hot chocolate to creative Christmas cocktails.

Markets are already decorated and serving seasonal food and warming drinks. I was able to visit both Borough Market and Leadenhall Market, which each offered a different festive atmosphere and were lovely places to wander.

London, and southern England in general, usually have moderate temperatures in November. You will still want a warm coat and a few layers, but it is often pleasant enough to walk comfortably and spend long stretches outdoors exploring the city.
Overall, late November is an ideal time to experience Christmas in London. You can enjoy the lights, decorations, seasonal food, and festive atmosphere with more manageable crowds, making the trip feel both magical and relaxed.
